Runway's AI: Create 70s Film Magic

Runway's AI startup has unveiled its new model, Frames, designed to focus on selecting different styles for image generation.

With this model, you can create visuals that, for example, look like they’re straight out of 70s or 80s films.

According to Runway, the Frames model helps users produce content that matches specific eras or artistic styles. It doesn’t replace their current model, Gen-3 Alpha, but complements and enhances it.

Runway plans to gradually make Gen-3 Alpha available to more users, allowing them to create stunning images and videos alongside the new Frames model.

Runway’s New Image-Generation Model

As seen in the images below, Frames can generate visuals based on specific film decades. The outputs are so realistic that it’s hard to believe they’re AI-generated.

The Frames model offers multiple worlds with distinct styles. For example, the "Disposables" frame creates images resembling those taken with 35mm disposable cameras:

Or, in the "Magazine Collage" frame, you can write a prompt to create a unique collage of magazine clippings:

Runway introduced Gen-3 Alpha earlier this year in June. Compared to its predecessor, Gen-2, it brings major improvements in structurestyle, and subject motion.

Recently, Runway has also added exciting features, such as the Expand Video tool, which lets users expand the environment around their original video and adjust its dimensions.
